Acrylic: These temporary partials are made of acrylic with metal clasps that attach to 2-4 of your remaining teeth to help hold the partial in place. They’re lightweight, easy to adjust, and the clasps are bendable to tighten or loosen as needed. Acrylic partials have a quick turnaround, can be made in less than two weeks, and work well for replacing front (anterior) teeth.
Valplast: Made of a flexible material with clasps in the same color as the partial for a more natural, aesthetic look, Valplast partials can have minimal adjustments made and tend to fit tightly. They can be made full size or in a smaller, single-tooth size called a Nesbit, with a turnaround of less than three weeks.
Cast Metal: Our most durable option, cast metal partials are great for lower teeth because their weight helps keep them in place as you talk and eat. They feature a metal base combined with acrylic and metal clasps, and this type requires several visits to complete.
Getting a Cast Metal Partial
Step 1: Impression for Cast Metal Partial Design – This allows the lab to mark your model for placing rest seats, small indentations on your teeth where the partial will rest. After rest seats are placed in office, an additional impression is taken and sent to the lab to begin the framework try-in process, which takes about three weeks.
Step 2: Framework Try-In – This is the metal base of the partial with wax blocks attached to establish your bite for a natural feel. You and your assistant will pick a tooth shade to match your remaining teeth.
Step 3: Framework Try-In With Teeth – You’ll try in the partial with teeth attached to make sure everything looks and feels right before the lab finalizes it for delivery.
Step 4: Delivery – Your assistant will try in the finished partial and walk you through how to insert, remove, and care for it.
