At Baker Family Dental, we offer two types of denture options, Conventional and Immediate Dentures. Each involves a few steps to make sure your dentures fit comfortably and look natural. We collect half of the total cost the day we start impressions, and you can make payments on the remaining balance until the day of delivery, when the dentures must be paid in full.

Conventional dentures are made when all of a patient’s teeth are already missing and need to be replaced. The steps below vary on a per-patient basis, and your assistant and doctor will let you know which steps apply to you.
Step 1: Custom Trays – The lab makes trays custom-fit to your mouth for a more accurate impression, when needed.
Step 2: Wax Rim – This step establishes your bite so your dentures come together as naturally as your original teeth did. You’ll try in upper and lower wax blocks, and the doctor will adjust as needed. You’ll also pick your desired shade, and the lab will add teeth to the wax for you to try in at your next visit.
Step 3: Wax Try-in with teeth – You’ll try in the wax blocks with teeth placed where you’re missing them, so you can approve the shape, shade, and size before the final dentures are made. Keep in mind the fit will be tighter once the final material is used, and changes can’t be made after this step, so let your assistant and doctor know of any concerns now. You’ll sign an approval form confirming you’re happy with everything so the lab can process your dentures for delivery.
Step 4: Delivery Day! Your dentures are delivered and tried in with your assistant to make sure they feel comfortable and don’t need adjustment. You’ll go home with a denture case, cleaning tablets, a denture brush, and samples of denture adhesive.
Immediate Dentures
Immediate dentures replace all of your teeth without having to go without teeth until delivery day. This option requires a few extra steps to make sure the fit and aesthetics are right for you.
Step 1: Extraction of two back molars in all four quadrants of the mouth, with additional teeth removed if needed. In some cases, extractions aren’t needed before impressions, and your assistant and doctor will let you know if healing time is recommended first.
Step 2: Impressions of the mouth are sent to the lab, a total of three, upper, lower, and a bite impression showing how your teeth come together.

Step 4: Wax Rim – This step establishes your bite for a natural fit. You’ll try in upper and lower wax blocks, the doctor will adjust as needed, and you’ll pick a shade for the lab to use on your setup.
Step 5: Wax Try-in with teeth – As with conventional dentures, you’ll approve the shape, shade, and size of the teeth at this stage. Changes can’t be made after this step, so share any concerns now. You’ll sign an approval form so the lab can finish processing your dentures.
Step 6: Delivery Day! Any remaining teeth are extracted and your dentures are delivered the same day. A softliner is placed in your denture, which you’ll wear for 24 hours, and we’ll see you back for a 24-hour post-op check to confirm everything feels comfortable. You’ll go home with a denture case, cleaning tablets, a denture brush, and samples of denture adhesive.
Post Op and Follow Up Visits
If you receive immediate dentures, you may be asked to come in for a 24-hour post-op check following delivery. We’ll make sure you’re doing well after your extractions and that the fit and bite of your dentures feel comfortable now that the numbness has worn off.
Follow-Up Appointments
Here are a few reasons you may call our office after your denture delivery:
- Adjustments – may be needed periodically for sore spots. Adjustments are free if we made your dentures in our office; if it’s been a while, you may just pay a standard office visit fee.
- Relines: In Office – temporary soft liners placed in office to help tighten dentures due to weight loss or other mouth changes.
- Relines: Lab – hard relines sent to our lab on Tuesdays. We’ll see you in office at 8 a.m. and have your denture back to you by 3:30 p.m. the same day. These help create a better long-term fit, and if you had immediate dentures made, you’ll receive one free lab reline 6 months after delivery.
